Wayne, Genesee County airports to receive federal funding

Wayne, Genesee Counties - U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced today that more than $1.5 million in federal funding will go towards upgrades at two airports.

The funding will go to infrastructure projects at the Williamson-Sodus Airport in Wayne County and the Genesee County Airport.

The Williamson-Sodus Airport will receive $143,413 to reconstruct and repave its runway and parallel taxiway.

The Genesee County Airport is working towards the final phase to demolish an old terminal and maintenance hangar. The airport will receive $1,411,200 for this project, removal of runway obstructions, construction of a 4,000 square-yard aircraft parking area and a 200-foot-extension for the airport’s taxiway.

The funding is given through the Airport Improvement Program and the Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration.
