PARAGLIDER, REGISTRATION UNKNOWN, MAKE AND MODEL UNKNOWN, CRASHED INTO THE SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN, BOULDER COUNTY, NEAR LAKEWOOD, COLORADO.

BOULDER, Colo. — A paraglider was critically injured after crashing in north Boulder Saturday afternoon.

The man, who is believed to be in his 50s, went down just west of Wonderland Lake, midway between Spring Valley Road and Pine Needle Road, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said the terrain is steep and rescuers had to hike about half a mile to the crash site.

The man was unconscious when emergency crews reached him at about 3 p.m., the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

The man was airlifted from the crash site to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood.

The rescue and evacuation took just over an hour from the time rescue personnel first reached the pilot.

The extent of the man’s injuries are unknown, but are believed to be life-threatening.

He did not regain consciousness during the rescue and evacuation, which took just over an hour, according to the sheriff’s office.

“The cause and the circumstances surrounding the crash are not yet known, but the investigation and interview of eyewitnesses continues,” the sheriff’s office stated.
