GOODYEAR, Arizona (3TV/CBS 5) -- The pilot of a small single-engine plane executed a perfect belly landing at Phoenix Goodyear Airport late Monday morning.

Reportedly missing a wheel and landing gear, the plane spent several minutes circling Phoenix Goodyear Airport (Estrella Parkway and MAC 85) to burn fuel.

Bruce Haffner was watching from the Arizona's Family News Chopper as the pilot descended and allowed the plane to kiss the runway and skid down the tarmac. Video showed the pilot and their passenger running from the plane as soon as it came to a stop. Neither one appeared hurt and later spent some time speaking with responding fire crews on the runway.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane's tail number belongs to a Grob-Werke G-120A registered to Lufthansa Aviation Training USA Inc. The company's website says its students come from Lufthansa Group Airlines, ANA Airlines, and the German Air Force.

The Grob Aircraft website says the G-120A has side-by-side seating, which we saw from the aerial video, and tricycle landing gear, which means there it one nose wheel and two more wheels -- one on either side -- slightly behind the plane's center of gravity.

The City of Phoenix has owned and operated Phoenix Goodyear Airport since July 1968. The airport, which was built by the Navy as a World War II air base, is classified as a general aviation reliever airport for Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix. Phoenix Goodyear Airport says it has one of the best general aviation runways in the country.
