Yeager Airport (KCRW) Officials Ask For $10 Million Loan For Repairs

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Officials of Yeager Airport are asking Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin for a $10 million loan to start the repairs of the airport's collapsed safety-overrun area.

The Charleston Gazette-Mail reported Yeager Airport spokesman Mike Plante said Tuesday officials asked the governor for a loan from any fund that is available while they await landslide-related insurance and lawsuit settlements.

Officials initially agreed to seek permission to tap into the state's $850 million reserve fund after a suggestion by board member Allen Tackett in October. Plante said officials decided not to ask for money from the Rainy Day Fund when they met with the governor earlier in the month.

Following the March 12 collapse, the airport lacked the funds needed for the repairs, which could cost between $25 million and $35 million.
