Police: Man caught with 25 lbs. of marijuana at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport (KCLT)

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and agents with Homeland Security Investigations arrested a California man Monday night at Charlotte-Douglas Airport and accused him of trafficking marijuana.

Officers say the man had checked his bag and a K-9 drug dog sniffed pot; they asked 21-year-old Aaron Hills if they could search, and according to court documents, he agreed.

Police say they found 25 pounds of high grade marijuana in the bag, which is said to worth an estimated $50,000 on the street.

"How could you possibly think you could smuggle anything like a drink let alone illegal substances," said Rob McGowan, a passenger.

Jail records show that Hills is from Oakland, California. Police won't say if Charlotte was his final destination or if he was here to allegedly deliver or to pick up.

"It's comforting to know that people who are trying to get away with something like that will be caught," said Ranju Ganesh, a passenger.

While police won't say where the pot came from, California is one of the states where medical marijuana is legal.
