Etihad Airways says sorry for flight diverted to Clark International Airport

Etihad Airways issued on Saturday evening a statement apologizing to guests on Flight EY424 that had to divert to Clark International Airport (CIA) on October 30.

The airline said the flight from Abu Dhabi to Manila was flown to CIA “due to airspace congestion at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia).”

The company described the diversion as “a circumstance beyond the airline’s control.”

Apparently, congestion also hit the CIA, this time its terminal, according to Etihad as passengers also had to wait for 10 hours before they disembarked from the aircraft.

“The airline also apologizes to the guests for the inconvenience they experienced as a result of the ensuing 10-hour delay in disembarking the aircraft–the result of terminal congestion at Clark International Airport, continuing airspace congestion at [the] Naia and delays in the arrival of ground transportation.”
