BlackHawk Paraglider: Fatal accident occurred October 23, 2015 in Fowler, Gilmer Township, Adams County, Illinois




ADAMS COUNTY, Ill. (WGEM) -  A man died Friday morning after his paraglider crashed in Adams County, north of Quincy, according to the Adams County Sheriff's Office.

Emergency crews were called to the scene near 7908 Ewbanks Road around 8:30 a.m. 


A deputy reported at the scene a man was transported to Blessing Hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.


Chief Deputy Joe Lohmeyer said James Mixer, 25, was pronounced dead at the hospital. 


Lohmeyer said the aircraft was a parachute connected to a seat with an engine and propeller.


Mixer had just launched from Discover Powered Paragliding, which is located on Ewbanks Road.


Tri-Township Fire and Adams County EMS were also called to the scene.

FOWLER, Ill. -- The pilot of an ultralight aircraft that crashed Friday morning in an open farm field in Adams County has died.

James L. Mixer, 25, died at 9:31 a.m. Friday at Blessing Hospital's emergency room, Adams County Coroner James Keller said. 

An autopsy will be performed.

Tri-Township Fire Department responded to the crash in the 7900 block of Ewbanks Road. 

A firefighter's four-wheel truck was used to access the scene, which was about one-quarter mile off Ewbanks Road, Assistant Chief Darren Smith reported.

Firefighters administered CPR at the scene before Keller was taken to a site a quarter mile from the crash, where an Adams County Ambulance crew took over and eventually took Keller to Blessing Hospital.
