SANGER (CBS11) — Officials are investigating a single-engine plane crash that happened just after 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The pilot was performing aerobatics while the pilot of a nearby helicopter was filming the performance, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The plane crashed on a private ranch near the intersection of Atcheson and Waide roads.

The cause of the crash is currently unknown, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The helicopter pilot was able to rescue the pilot of the plane from the crash site and fly him to Baylor Medical Center in Grapevine.

The pilot’s injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

Investigators tell CBS11 the pilot was the only one on board, and no one on the ground was hurt.

The aircraft was quickly destroyed by fire and briefly ignited a small grass fire, which was put out by the Slidell and Sanger fire departments.

The National Transportation Safety Board will lead an investigation into the incident with the FAA.
