Nigerian preacher TB Joshua has linked the collapse of his church building to a small plane that was seen flying overhead shortly before the building fell.
The actual figures for those who died when the guesthouse for members of the Synagogue Church of All Nations collapsed on Friday are still uncertain. President Jacob Zuma said on Tuesday that 67 South Africans had perished in the collapse, while Nigerian newspaper Vanguard reported the death toll had risen to 63.
Agencies reported that over 100 survivors had been rescued.
In the aftermath of the incident, the church has claimed sabotage for the collapse, releasing CCTV footage which appears to show a small plane flying over the building before the building fell.
According to New Telegraph Online, Joshua claims he was the target of the mystery aircraft’s mission. He said he was praying when he and others noticed the ‘unusual’ hovering of the light plane that passed over the building four times.
