Interstate Aviation Committee finds no signs of aircraft equipment failure in Boeing 737 crash at Kazan airport

(Kazan, 16 September, Tatar-inform). The Interstate Aviation Committee, IAC, has found no signs of aircraft equipment failure in the crash of Boeing 737 at Kazan airport, IAC says on its website.

The technical committee assigned to investigate the crash of Tatarstan Airlines owned Boeing 737-500 reports that the engineering-technical sub-committee has completed the work to investigate and analyse the performance of aircraft equipment, including that of the elevator control system, during the flight in question.

To assess the elevator control system’s performance, a number of tests were done, including 3D tomography of elevator control’s left and right sides, full dismantling and assessment of hydraulic drives’ condition, bench tests of the main control valves of hydraulic drives, and others.

The experts studied the type of hydraulic drive operation history as well as reports pertaining to earlier incidents of Boeing 737 elevator control system emergency functioning. The analysis showed that the elevator control hydraulic drive emergency operation circumstances were different from the flight in question.

Based on the performed work, the engineering-technical sub-committee concluded that no signs of aircraft equipment failure were found on either the flight recorders or the surviving components, units and plants, as well as the engines and systems including the elevator control system.

The committee concludes its work to establish all causes and factors of the air accident.

The Boeing 737-500 VQ-BBN airliner owned by Tatarstan carrier crashed on 17 November 2013 while landing at Kazan international airport. The airplane was performing a flight between Moscow and Kazan. The accident claimed the lives of 44 passengers and 6 crew members.
