While on assignment for another story, I met with a subject on West Riego Road off Highway 99 near Natomas. We passed Farm Air Flying Service on our way to some rice dryers. Once finished with my assignment, I watched the the bright yellow aircraft take off, land and fly off to the crops they were spraying.
Slideshow: Planes and rice fields
I knew I could make some great images, both photos and videos, as soon as I saw the planes. How could you miss with the bright yellow planes, blue skies and green rice fields?
So I stopped and asked for permission to take pictures and video of the planes.
There were two rules: Stay off the runway and don't do anything stupid. I'm still here.
In my research after the fact, I found it's not really called crop-dusting anymore. Industry pilots prefer the term aerial or ag application.
