Avid Speedwing: Incident occurred September 13, 2014 in Northchapel, West Sussex - UK

Sussex police have said the man involved in a light aircraft crash in Northchapel did not sustain serious injuries.

Reports came in on Saturday (September 13) of an aircraft that had crashed in Northchapel.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Shortly before 1pm on Saturday (13 September) police were alerted by Air Traffic Control, Southampton, to an aircraft in difficulty near Northchapel.

“The Avid Speedwing made a forced landing in a field close to Frithfold Farm, Pipers Lane, Northchapel.

“The pilot, the sole occupant, sustained only minor injuries and was able to walk away from the damaged aircraft. No one else was hurt.”

Fire, ambulance and air ambulance crews attended, and a police helicopter monitoring the Tour of Britain cycle race was temporarily diverted to overfly the scene.

Air accident investigators are now dealing with the incident.
