Kearney, Nebraska: Firefighters complete Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting training

KEARNEY — Nineteen Kearney Volunteer Fire Department firefighters received 16 hours in specialized training of the department’s ladder trucks in April.

The class was taught by retired New York Firefighter Mike Wilbur. He had 30 years of experience with FDNY. In the recent training Wilbur provided classroom and hands-on training on safety, placement of trucks and general use of KVFD’s two ladder trucks.

Firefighters who attended the two-day training were Brad Anderson, Eddy Baer, Gene Beerbohm, Robert Cinatl, Jim Downing, Terry Eirich, Max Gintzler, Curtis Hensley, Shane Johnston, Dave Krueger, Emmett Maul, Ric Pulliam, Tony Rich, John Sydow, Dan Thompson, Matt Ullman, Todd Walton, George Wiedel and Brian Wolfe.

Several firefighters were also re-certified on the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting vehicle located at the department’s Station Three at Kearney Regional Airport.

Firefighters who rotate working at Station Three trained on the simulator as part of their certification with the Federal Aviation Administration.

Those who were re-certified were Anderson, Baer, Bryan Chase, Downing, Eirich, Gintzler, Hensley, Johnston, Krueger, Maul, Tim Pratt, Pulliam, Rich, Kevin Royle, Kortni Shemat, Trenton Snow, Sydow, Thompson, Jerry Thompson, Ullman, Walton, Jason Whalen, Wiedel and Wolfe.
