EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -
Officials at Edwards Air Force Base confirmed that a F-22 and F-16 jet flying in the West Pacific Test Flight Range 50 miles west of Vandenberg Air Force Base caused a series of sonic booms that sent shock waves through Santa Barbara County Thursday morning.
People called and emailed into the NewsChannel 3 newsroom from various locations in the county saying they felt them and thought they were earthquakes.
Edwards officials say weather conditions allowed everyone to hear and feel the shock waves.
Edwards conducts these types of operations year-round but Thursday's atmospheric conditions allowed the boom to be heard and felt along the Central Coast.
Test flights began just after 8 a.m. and are expected to wrap up mid-afternoon.
The sonic booms were felt back on January 8th around the same time of day.
