Webcam keeps an eye on airport runway construction

FORT LAUDERDALE— 

Curious residents can now watch a play-by-play of the construction of the South Runway at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

A new webcam at http://www.fll.net snaps pictures every 15 minutes at three different angles showing the airport's transformation from dirt mounds and green grass to an a 8,000-foot elevated runway.

The $791 million expanded South Runway is part of an overall $2 billion capital improvement program that includes modernizing and expanding the terminals. Construction should be mostly complete by September 2014.
