The former president of
Pan American Airways was sentenced to 30 years in prison and ordered to
pay more than $5 million in restitution to victims of child pornography.
Robert
L. Hedrick was sentenced this morning to 360 months on a count of
attempted sexual exploitation of children; 120 months on transfer of
obscene material and possession of child pornography; and 240 months on
two counts of distribution of child pornography.
The sentences run concurrently.
Hedrick
was convicted May 21 on five charges of attempting to produce images of
child pornography, transfer of obscene materials to a minor, and
distribution and possession of child pornography. He was arrested at his
home in July 2011.
The government had asked for a 90 year
sentence, but U.S. District Judge Andrew S. Hanen said the sentences
would run concurrently rather than consecutively because of Hedrick’s
age.
Hedrick maintained his innocence and will appeal.
“I
can’t ask the court for anything. I was framed. I didn’t do what I was
charged and convicted of,” he said, adding that he can’t say he is sorry
or show remorse for something he didn’t do.
