Exploring Roanoke's Aviation History: New exhibits will take you to new heights

ROANOKE, Va.—  Roanoke now has a way to explore the state's aviation history while looking to the future.  The Wings Over Virginia Aviation Gallery is now open at the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke. Today's grand opening included special guest speakers. Visitors enjoyed lots of interactive exhibits and informative displays.

Deputy Director Don Moser spoke to us about the importance of the gallery. “ Children come through here-these are going to be our future aviators. We're hoping the seed that hooked me and many other pilots will also hook them,” he said.

The gallery has been closed to the public since 2006, when the museum was damaged by a storm. The roof of the gallery was blown off, and most of the exhibits were ruined. Museum employees say they're pleased the gallery is open once again for folks to enjoy.
