Ultralight airplane pilot killed in Shafter crash
A 44-year-old man was killed Sunday night when the ultralight airplane he was flying crashed on a street in Shafter.
The man, whose name and city of residence was not released Sunday, crashed in the 29000 block of San Diego Street at about 8 p.m., the Kern County Fire Department said in a release.
Fire crews who responded found a single victim aboard the ultralight aircraft. Fire crews were able to quickly remove him from the airplane due to its light construction, however, the man was fatally injured in the crash, authorities said.
No further details were available Sunday night, a fire department spokesman said.
An FAA investigation of the circumstances leading to the crash will be conducted.
