A 68-year-old Winneconne man died after a small plane crash in the Town of Winneconne on Monday afternoon.

Authorities said a single-engine aircraft crashed into a salvaged vehicle parked in a field adjacent to a grass runway on Ginnow Road.

The Winnebago County Sheriff's Department and Winneconne-Poygan Fire Department responded to reports of the crash at 12:08 p.m. The pilot was the plane's only occupant.

The Winnebago County Sheriff and Winnebago County Coroner's Office will continue to investigate the cause of the crash. They will consult with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration, authorities said.

The name of the pilot has not yet been released, pending notification of his family. An autopsy will be conducted this week.
