First plane to land at Manchester airport returns as Hornet Moth marks 75th anniversary of historic flight (UK)

Duncan Menzies' pilot log book, showing his entry from May 1937 when he landed at the Ringway

A historic biplane that was the first to land at Manchester Airport has returned to mark the airport's 75th birthday. The vintage de Havilland Hornet Moth flew in today carrying Peter Menzies, son of original pilot Duncan who was aboard the aircraft back on May 17, 1937. The single-engined plane was originally not even supposed to have touched down at the Ringway airstrip, as it was then known.
