As the government ordered inspection of planes operated by private airlines, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Monday said that all private aircrafts would not be grounded at once.
The Defence Ministry of Pakistan on Sunday mandated that all airplanes operated by private airlines must undergo a new inspection to determine whether they are safe to fly.
The decision was taken two days after Bhoja Air Boeing 737 passenger plane crashed on Friday, killing all 127 people on board on the outskirts of Islamabad.
The Federal Intelligence Agency (FIA) has barred Farooq Bhoja, the head of the airline, from leaving the country, vowing to investigate the tragedy. The FIA in its initial report did not rule out any possibility of sabotage in the incident.
Taking notice of the emergency landing of a Shaheen Airline passenger aircraft at Karachi airport, Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhar directed CAA chief Nadeem Yousufzai to inspect the planes being used by private airlines.
The CAA on Monday said all aircraft would not be grounded all together, and that the checking would be carried out in phases not to abandon flight operations.
Issuing a notification on the order of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, the government has formed a high-level judicial commission to investigate the Bhoja plane crash.
Justice (retd) Zahid Hussain will preside over the commission while Dr. Wasim Kosar has been named its Secretary, and Justice (retd) Naseer Sikandar as member.
