New Braunfels' Llerena Named 2012 Airport Manager of the Year by TXDOT

(New Braunfels, TX) -- New Braunfels Airport Director Vinicio "Lenny" Llerena was named TXDOT’s 2012 General Aviation Manager of the Year at a ceremony held last night at the 30th annual Texas Aviation Convention in Galveston. The award is presented annually to an airport director who exhibits excellence in management and business, aspects that City Manager Michael Morrison says are exemplified by Llerena.

With support from City Council, Llerena purchased new airport towing equipment and acquired additional land for a runway extension, and he even made use of the county’s prison labor force to reduce maintenance costs. Under his leadership, over 12-million dollars in capital improvements have been initiated at the airport, with about 9½-million dollars coming from TXDOT grants, not from local taxpayers.

TXDOT is responsible for maintaining 80-thousand miles of road in Texas and is responsible for supporting aviation, rail, and public transportation projects across the state. You can find out more by logging on to http://txdot.gov.
