The TSA discovered marijuana when they flagged a jar of peanut butter going through security
OAKLAND (KTLA) -- A man was detained last week after he tried to board a plane to Los Angeles with some suspicious looking peanut butter.
The unidentified man was traveling through the Oakland Airport on Sunday when he was stopped by a TSA agent who spotted some peanut butter in his bag.
What caught the screener's attention wasn't just the jar of Skippy, which itself is banned, but was what was inside that jar.
"Drugs aren't something we're looking for," TSA spokesman Nico Melendez told the San Francisco Chronicle. "The concern here is that peanut butter is prohibited anyway because of the liquid ban."
That object was a zip-top baggie of marijuana, according to Melendez.
The man admitted to owning the drugs and said he hid it in the jar because he didn't have a medical marijuana card.
The man was cited and released. He didn't make his Delta flight.
Melendez also said this is the second time in recent months that peanut butter has been the smuggling vessel of choice.
