General Civil Aviation Authority organizes and hosts the first "National Safety Conference"

Dubai, UAE: The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) held yesterday the first National Safety Conference, with the participation of experts in the field of aviation safety from GCAA staff, airline companies and other regional and international organizations. The one-day conference was held on 7th of December, 2011, at the Intercontinental, Dubai.

Aviation safety has been the major preoccupation of the international civil aviation field, similarly, the UAE has dedicated enormous efforts to ensure compliance with the highest safety standards as recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

HE Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the GCAA, gave the opening address for the conference. Attendees included experts in aviation safety from ICAO and the Arab Civil Aviation Commission (ACAC), and a number of guest speakers.

The conference's main goal is to enhance efficient communication between all stakeholders in the national civil aviation industry, and to identify all factors endangering aviation safety to eliminate them in a preemptive manner.

Guest speakers included Mr. Mohammed Khonji, ICAO Middle East Regional Director for the Middle East region. Mr. Khonji speech elaborated on the numerous ICAO initiatives in regards to safety of aviation. Mr. Mohamed Al Elj, Director General of Arab Civil Aviation Commission, emphasized in his speech on the importance of regional coordination to ensure safety of flight operations.

Al Suwaidi noted in his speech that the aviation safety conference coincides with the celebration of the International Civil Aviation day which marks the creation of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on 7th of December, 1944.

From the beginning of its establishment, the vision of ICAO aimed at securing global cooperation among its 193 Member States to build and maintain a solid regulatory framework, thereby bringing the enormous economic, social and cultural benefits of air transport to entire populations all over the world.

"Aviation safety cannot be ensured by single party. It is a shared responsibility. It requires active participation of all stake holders. I am proud to see that the General Civil Aviation Authority has embarked on the road to implement the State Safety Programme as required by International Civil Aviation Organization," said HE Said Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General for GCAA.

"Today's event is a part of safety promotion aiming to build partnership among stakeholders, the aviation industry and the regulator, GCAA. Acceptable level of Safety must be achieved at all levels and therefore, a better understanding, coordination and cooperation among stakeholders are important to manage aviation safety risks jointly," added Al Suwaidi.

The conference also witnessed participation from Abu Dhabi Aircraft Company (ADAC) and Emirates Safety Group. On the side of the conference, attendees had a chance to explore latest techniques and software adopted by the GCAA such as the new version of Q-Pulse, modified to function on the iPad, enabling safety auditors to perform more audits with fewer efforts and less time.

Recognition of outstanding safety partners will be handed out during the conference.
