Blown bulb forces U.S. Airways flight back to Nashville

A light bulb that blew and created an odor in the cabin was the reason a U.S. Airways flight out of Nashville International Airport bound for Charlotte, N.C. turned around Wednesday morning.

There were 90 people on board flight 1407, U.S. Airways spokeswoman Valerie Wunder said.

The flight crew “opted to return and get it fixed’’ after the light bulb blew, Wunder said.

The plane took off about 7:40 a.m., according to Nashville International Airport spokeswoman Emily Richard and landed safely in Nashville about an hour later.

Maintenance workers met the plane at the gate, Wunder said. She was not aware of any passengers who required any medical treatment.

Wunder didn’t immediately know whether passengers were being put on another plane or remain on the same one, but said they would be accommodated.
