Dubai plays key role in global air transport industry

DUBAI - Dubai always support an open skies policy in the air transport industry, which has effectively contributed to the growth and sustainability of international air transport.

This was stated by Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA), Chairman of Dubai Airports, and Chairman of Emirates Group, in a message on the occasion of International Civil Aviation Day, being observed on Wednesday.

The Day is observed on December 7 across the world to raise awareness of the importance of international civil aviation and the role that the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) plays in international air transport.

“I am convinced that the continues contribution and cooperation extended by the DCAA, Emirates airline, flydubai and Dubai Airports to the civil aviation industry will undoubtedly enable the sustainability of the air transport industry globally,” Shaikh Ahmed said in an emailed statement to Khaleej Times.

The Day has been celebrated under different themes since 1994. The Council of ICAO approved the theme ‘Assistance and Cooperation for Globally Sustainable Air Transport’ as the theme for this year’s worldwide celebrations of the Day and throughout the year 2012.

“I consider the theme for this year, as most appropriate due to the turbulent economic situations around the world. All of us involved in the aviation industry should support the civil aviation industry to sustain its growth to enable connectivity, economic stability and to create and preserve friendship and understanding amongst the nations of the world,” he said.

In this regard, Government of Dubai together with the DCAA has initiated several strategic plans to sustain the growth of air transport in the Emirate, whilst contributing to the development and sustainability of the industry in the UAE and the world, he added.

In his message Mohammed A. Ahli, director-general, DCAA, said the Council of ICAO has declared this year’s theme based on assistance and cooperation for globally sustainable air transport industry.

In this regard, DCAA has worked together with the ICAO in many instances and provided assistance and cooperation for the development of international air transport globally, A. Ahli said.

DCAA has also extended assistance and cooperation to other aviation authorities and organization to sustain the growth in air transport between the Emirate of Dubai and their countries through a liberal framework. The contribution and the cooperation of the DCAA to the aviation industry to sustain its continues growth will be ever increasing, he added.

DCAA will be organising many programmes in 2012, under the theme ‘Assistance and Cooperation for Globally Sustainable Air Transport’ to bring awareness of the importance of International Civil Aviation day and the theme.
