Experience WWI with traveling exhibit

The free traveling World War I exhibit, Honoring Our History, stops Saturday at the San Jacinto Museum of History in La Porte as part of its 75-city tour.

The exhibit, designed by the National World War I Museum, offers interactive displays so visitors can experience the sights and sound of the Great War. The 66 artifacts in the custom 18-wheeler include weapons, uniforms, posters and flags.

The event is being coordinated by the Waddell & Reed mutual fund offices in Houston. Founders of Waddell & Reed, Chauncey Waddell and Cameron Reed, were World War I veterans, and the exhibit includes Waddell's flight gear, flight suit and log book.

Money raised at each stop during the cross-country tour will be divided between the San Jacinto Museum of History and the National World War I Museum in Kansas City, Mo.

The exhibit continues through Texas with stops Wednesday at VFW Post 76, San Antonio; Dec. 10 at the Texas Civil War Museum, Fort Worth; and Dec. 15 at the Texas Military Forces Museum, Austin.
