Two Freedom Air employees allegedly stole ticket sales

Police arrested Tuesday night one of two employees of Freedom Air who allegedly stole the company's ticket sales.

Rellanita A. Villagomez, 51, was served with an arrest warrant at 8pm in Dandan for theft.

An arrest warrant was also issued against Helen Dayawon Camacho, 51, for the same charge. Camacho reportedly left for the Philippines on Aug. 12, 2011, with no actual return date.

The police report did not mention how much money was stolen.

Villagomez's bail was set at $250 cash and $2,250 unsecured bond.

Detective Kevin R. Maratita stated in his report that a detective had responded to a theft complaint at Freedom Air aviation services at the cargo area of the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport on Aug. 23, 2011.

Maratita said the detective had learned from the Freedom Air station manager that an employee had discovered discrepancies in some of the passenger manifests, with several manifests not showing the tickets assigned to them. It was also found that some tickets that customers had purchased had been voided.

Maratita said that Camacho had admitted to the air station manager that she had taken the tickets that were sold to customers but did not log them on the manifest. Camacho then later allegedly voided the tickets and took the money.

Camacho further allegedly admitted to the station manager that she got the tickets from Villagomez.

When the incident was reported to the police, Villagomez was off-island. Camacho also left the CNMI on Aug. 12.

Maratita said he later learned that Villagomez had returned a month ago but had not reported back to work.

Maratita said Villagomez was the person in charge of all incoming Freedom Air tickets from the Saipan station and agency tickets for Saipan.

The detective said an internal audit showed that passenger manifests were found inside Villagomez's desk where some of the agency tickets were stamped with the Freedom Air stamp instead of the travel agency stamp.

Maratita said the manifest revealed that those same ticket numbers were logged as missing from the Saipan station ticket inventory sheet and that the tickets were issued by Camacho.
