GKN Aerospace bringing 278 jobs to Orangeburg

An international supplier to the aviation industry announced Tuesday it will locate a manufacturing operation in Orangeburg.

GKN Aerospace says it will invest $38 million and create 278 new jobs over the next five years.

"This is one of the best companies in the aerospace industry," Orangeburg County Development Commission Executive Director Gregg Robinson said.

GKN will locate in the Orangeburg County/City Industrial Park on U.S. 301 in the 151,000-square-foot speculative building.

The company, headquartered in the United Kingdom, will initially focus on the manufacture of composite HondaJet fuselages as part of a contract with Honda Aircraft Company.

The composite, light-weight bonded fuselage will be used to supply the HondaJet business jet.

GKN Aerospace is a subsidiary of GKN, which operates in over 30 countries and employs more than 40,000 people.
