South African drug smuggler arrested at Hong Kong airport

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong Customs officers arrested a South African woman found with about 3 kg of methamphetamine, popularly known as Ice, at Hong Kong International Airport Tuesday morning.

This is the third transnational drug trafficking case Hong Kong Customs uncovered in the last five days.

The drug was concealed inside her luggage. The 25-year-old woman will face a drug trafficking charge at a district court Wednesday.

The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a 5 million HK dollars fine (about 640,000 U.S. dollars).
