Luscombe 8A, N41907: 1 Dies, 1 Injured in Plane Crash. Brooks County, Georgia.


BROOKS COUNTY - At least one person was killed this afternoon when a plane crashed in rural Brooks County.

Officials say the small aircraft took off from Thomasville airport before crashing in a field 5 miles south of Quitman. It happened around 2:50 this afternoon near Dixie Road.

The name of victim has not been released. FAA investigators are on the way to Brook County to determine what caused the plane to crash.

QUITMAN, Ga. -- Federal aviation officials say one person is dead and another has been injured in a small plane crash near Quitman, Ga.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Holly Baker says it was not immediately known why the plane crashed at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. She says the pilot suffered minor injuries and a passenger was killed.

She says officials from the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are expected to be at the crash site on Sunday to investigate.

Baker says the aircraft sustained substantial damage in the crash. The 1941 Luscombe 8A plane is registered to Larry Boiven of Bell, Fla. A phone message to Boiven's home was not immediately returned on Saturday evening.
