Philippine Air Force Huey helicopter lands in rice field, 5 safe.

GUIMBA, Nueva Ecija -- Due to alleged engine malfunction, a Philippine Air Force Huey helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing in a ricefield here yesterday morning.

Provincial Intelligence police chief Supt. Ricardo E. Villanueva said all five occupants of the PAF UH-1H chopper No. 370 were safe and unhurt. They were pilot Captain Elmer Ariola, his co-pilot Captain Richard Dalag and crew members S/Sgt. Jhong Laurita, Airman 1st Class Rayan Tompong and S/Sgt. Lauro Joya.

Villanueva said the aircraft came from the Northern Luzon Command in Camp Aquino, Tarlac and was bound for Cauayan, Isabela when it made an emergency landing in Bgy. Bunol at 8:40 a.m. yesterday.

Quoting initial reports, he said the chopper’s engine transmission malfunctioned, forcing its pilot to make the emergency landing.

No one was reported hurt and the helicopter was not damaged, Villanueva said.

He said the Guimba police and personnel from the Army’s 81st Infantry Battalion immediately secured the area.
