Ercoupe 415-C: Plane Makes Emergency Landing On Sierra Highway, California.

Palmdale Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to Sierra Highway near Red Rover Mine Road in Acton regarding a low flying aircraft at 1:10PM Thursday.

When they arrived they discovered that the plane, a 1946 single engine “Ercoupe 415-c”, had already landed on Sierra Highway. There were no injuries to the plane’s pilot, a 77-year old male Long Beach resident and the sole passenger, a 65-year old female Long Beach resident.

The pilot said he had recently purchased the plane and taken off from nearby Fox Field in Lancaster, and was headed to Long Beach Airport when he experienced a mechanical failure and was forced to land on the highway.

No traffic collisions occurred and no people were injured.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Aero Bureau and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) investigators responded. FAA will be investigating further.

The aircraft has since been removed from the highway.
