Isle of Man's Ronaldsway Airport sees 'solid' recovery

 Ronaldsway Airport in the Isle of Man is enjoying a "solid" recovery, according to the manager.

Ann Reynolds said 65,964 passengers passed through the airport during August, an increase of 367 on 2010.

The Liverpool route serviced by Flybe and Easyjet experienced a 14% increase in passengers, she said.

Ms Reynolds added: "We were hopeful we would see a more emphatic increase for August this year, but market conditions have remained difficult."

It is thought the Manx market reflects those at other regional airports around the British Isles.

Charter operations for 2011 have remained buoyant, the airport says, with a 28% increase in passengers taking direct flights to the Mediterranean.

Airport statistics show 1,300 people flew to the Mediterranean on nine different charters this summer.
