Corona del Mar, California: Airport Questions? “Ask the Expert” Fundraising Event Scheduled For Saturday

Is airplane noise getting you down? Does it seem like planes are flying lower and closer than ever before? Or do you simply want the latest news on the John Wayne Airport Settlement Agreement negotiations?

The Airport Working Group of Orange County, Inc.’s board of directors will host its Ask the Expert Fundraising event from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday on the beach at 1108 Polaris Drive in Newport Beach.

The event, which costs $40 per person, includes dinner and live entertainment, along with the chance to hear experts on four topics discussing airport issues.

The experts will discuss provisions of the Settlement Agreement, new STREL/RAWLZ departures procedures, noise and operation at John Wayne Airport, and jet air pollution and health issues. The experts will begin speaking and answering questions at 3 p.m. and will rotate every 15 minutes. The experts are Barbara Lichman, Donald Nyre, Jim Dunlap, Tom Peppler, Shirley Conger and Julie Carr.

Reservations are required; call (949) 933-0124 for more information.

Airport noise became a hot topic for many Corona del Mar residents last spring after some commercial planes leaving John Wayne Airport began using the so-called STREL flight path, which takes planes over the Back Bay to a turnaround point over the ocean; read our earlier stories here and here.
