Indian Air Force plane crashes in Uttar Pradesh, two killed.

New Delhi - An Indian Air Force (IAF) combat jet crashed in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh Thursday, killing its pilot and a civilian on the ground, officials said, confirming news reports.

The single-seater Jaguar aircraft crashed in the fields of a village in the Mau district, 250 kilometres east of state capital Lucknow.

'The aircraft was on a training exercise and crashed into the fields,' said an IAF official in New Delhi, requesting anonymity.

Although the IAF said they were yet to confirm casualties in the accident, local news outlets said the pilot and a girl from the village were killed in the crash.

The IAF has ordered an investigation into the cause of the crash of the British-built Jaguar.

India's air force has suffered a spate of crashes involving its fighter jets, most of which are Russian-made MiG jets.

Three IAF fighter planes have crashed this year, most recently in the north-western state of Rajasthan on Tuesday.
