Rutan VariEze, Warwick Flying School: Fatal accident occurred August 17, 2011 d off the Capricorn Highway, east of Emerald, Queensland, Australia

The men took it for a pre-sale test flight and the wreckage was found yesterday.

Central Highlands Mayor Peter Maguire says the community is still coming to terms with the death of two men in an ultralight plane crash in Emerald, west of Rockhampton in central Queensland.

Two men, aged 51 and 55, died when their ultralight crashed near Emerald airport on Wednesday.

The men took it for a pre-sale test flight and the wreckage was found yesterday.

Councillor Maguire says one of the men, Ian Baldwin, was a hard-working former council employee.

"People will be shocked and we're always shocked to hear unfortunate passings of people in communities and these small communities that Ian has been involved in will be no different," he said.

"People will be coming to terms with it and ... it will be a sad couple of days.

"Ian was involved in the road construction and the maintenance areas of the shires and he was a good guy.

"He was a larger than life guy so to speak, a hard worker, involved in other aspects of the community, including the SES [State Emergency Service] and the fire brigade."
