Coffman Associates completes airport site selection. Leavenworth County Regional Airport, Kansas.

Lansing, Kan. —  The final piece of the site selection study for a potential Leavenworth County Regional Airport have been released.

Lee’s Summit consulting Coffman Associates performed the study on behalf of the Leavenworth County Regional Airport and Business Park Committee, composed both of interested residents and representatives from the county’s cities.

In the first part of the site selection process, Coffman had selected three finalist sites from which they were to eventually recommend one. Those sites were an area northwest of the city of Leavenworth and almost 2 miles west of Fort Leavenworth on Coffin Road; an area off of Eisenhower Road approximately 4 miles west of Kansas Highway 7; and one mile east of K-7 north of McIntyre Road off of Gilman Road.

The last of those three emerged as the recommended site in the final part of the report issued by Coffman Wednesday. It was chosen based on a number of technical factors, according to Mike Dmyterko, principal with Coffman Associates.

“It seemed to have the fewest difficulties plus it met all the criteria,” he said in summary.
