Carshalton couple who moved from Heathrow now face helicopter noise. (UK)

A couple who have already moved once to avoid aircraft noise have now had their summer ruined by noisy helicopters.

Mr and Mrs Smith from Carshalton moved to the area in 2009 after becoming increasingly frustrated at noise from Heathrow Airport.

The frustrated couple, who lived in Ealing for 42 years, lived under the airports flightpath but had to move away after the noise became too much.

Mr Smith said: "Day and night it was so bad that to hear the sound on Television we had to keep hold of the remote to higher and lower the volume when a plane came over, which could be one every minute. As the sound of one faded another could be heard approaching."

Just as they thought they had got away from their noisy neighbours, the couple have had endure another summer of discontent as helicopters have been whirring overhead in increasing numbers.

Mr Smith added: "We then found this lovely Bungalow in a quiet cul-de-sac here in Carshalton, so you can imagine our horror when these noisy things spoiled our peace this summer."

Last month, Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake urged residents to report any out-of-the-ordinary helicopter activity.

In recent years, the numbers of helicopters flying over Sutton has increased substantially due to the increase in traffic in and out of the London Heliport in Battersea.
