CENTRAL OHIO --  New information is released and a reward is offered after a bullet hit a medical helicopter last week.

MedFlight told NBC4 a pilot found a bullet hole in one of its helicopters during a post-flight inspection the night of Aug. 4.

The bullet hole is in the chopper's underside or belly -- the rear of the fuselage, just under the rear doors.

According to Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, it has been determined that the helicopter was flying from Union County to Fayette County on a routine flight when the bullet struck.

The flight path was reviewed and it was determined that most likely the bullet struck the aircraft somewhere over the greater London area in Madison County.

On the morning of Aug. 5, engineers found what they believe to be fragments of a .22-caliber fired round under the aircraft floor.

Crane said three people likely were inside the aircraft at the time of the incident, but no one was hurt.

The involved chopper is grounded at a Marysville hangar. Back-up resources are covering transport requests in the region.

A reward of up to $5,000 is offered for information leading to the identification and arrest of the person responsible for the crime.

If you have any information on the incident, call the Union County sheriff's office at 937-645-4101 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477).

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Authorities announced Friday that a reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to the person who fired a gunshot that punctured a medical helicopter mid-flight earlier this month. The MedFlight helicopter was shot on Aug. 4, as it was making a routine flight from Marysville to Washington Court House, authorities said.

The aircraft was traveling at about 1,000 feet when one of the crew members heard what sounded like a "thud," and then a hissing sound.

Later, after the helicopter landed, crews noticed a bullet had penetrated its skin. No one was injured.

Investigators believe that the bullet likely struck the helicopter while it was over or near the city of London, in Madison County.

If apprehended and convicted, the person responsible for shooting the helicopter could face up to 20 years in prison.

Anyone with information was asked to call Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
