  1. Pilots build/buy Lancairs for performance at the cost of utility. They are the Corvette of the single piston sky. Pilots build/buy Vans because they offer great all around utility at the cost of performance fun. They are the Impala of the skies. Finally, both can be bought partially or totally completed by a certified builder so a buyer doesn't have to so much as turn a screwdriver (and then there is the used market full of them}. Hope that helps clear things up for you.
