The pilot of a Mooney M20J 201 aircraft escaped injury late Wednesday morning when he landed on a runway at the Williamsport Regional Airport in Montoursville without the landing gear down, according to Richard Howell, the airport’s executive director.

While the aircraft sustained some damage, it did not appear to be severe, Howell said.

The mishap occurred about 11:50 a.m.

No one else was on the plane, Howell said, adding that the pilot was making a routine landing, but the landing gear was not down.

With the help of a wrecker, the damaged aircraft was moved to a hangar.

The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate why the landing gear was not down, Howell said.
