Emergency personnel from numerous agencies in two counties responded at midday Tuesday to a reported plane crash on the Canadian River east of Francis.

Initial reports indicated an aircraft was upside down on a sandbar on the Seminole County side of the river.

Rescue crews had difficulty reaching the scene due to lack of roads in the area and heavily wooded land.

Within 30 minutes of the dispatch, an AirEvac Lifeteam medical helicopter was able to land at the scene and determine the aircraft was empty, and observed tracks leading away from the crash.

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Oklahoma (KXII) - No one was injured after an experimental plane crashed in Seminole County Tuesday afternoon.

The plane went down around noon east of Highway 377 near the Canadian River.

The FAA says a Zlin Aviation Savage Cub-S flipped while the pilot was practicing landing on a sandbar in the river.

The pilot was the only person onboard. The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office says they were not injured.

  1. Wet brakes grabbed from water-assist landing, or just a normal nose over?

  2. You gotta stay away from the dry sand it'll flip you every time. He'd probably have been fine closer to the water

    1. Well you do if you have the normal small general aviation tires. This one had the big bouncy bush landing tires. They are more than capable of landing in sandy conditions like this. Hell you can land on rocky terrain shores with them. There are countless Youtube videos of bush planes with these tires landing on sandy beaches, rocky beaches, and even grasslands. Clearly pilot error.
