GAINESVILLE, Florida (WCJB) – Alachua County fire rescue crews responded to an incident at the Gainesville Regional Airport after a pilot declared an emergency Saturday afternoon.

The pilot was flying a Cessna P210N Pressurized Centurion II just five miles south of the airport when a bald eagle hit his plane and went through the windshield at 12:20 p.m according to a Gainesville Regional Airport spokesperson.

The spokesperson said details are forthcoming, but provided this statement:

"Our fire station responded and the pilot was able to land safely and get the aircraft back to its hangar."
