Flight Conducted Under: Part 91: General Aviation - Personal

On August 27, 2019, about 1716 Pacific daylight time, a Bell 47G-4A helicopter, N6064H, collided with a fuel support trailer and rolled onto its left side at North Las Vegas airport, North Las Vegas, Nevada. The private pilot and pilot-rated-passenger were not injured. The helicopter received substantial damage to the main rotor, tail rotor, and fuselage. The helicopter was registered to the pilot who was operating it as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the airport at the time of the accident, and no flight plan was filed for the local flight.

According to the pilot, he had recently purchased the helicopter and had flown it only two times. On the third flight attempt he could not keep the engine and main rotor within the green arc of the dual tachometer so he cancelled his flight and requested a maintenance shop to remove the spark plugs in order to inspect them. On the day of the accident, he and the pilot-rated-passenger cleaned and reinstalled the spark plugs. They then entered the helicopter where the pilot started the helicopter and brought it up to a hover. The pilot was experiencing difficulties establishing a stable hover so he gave the controls to the pilot-rated-passenger. The helicopter subsequently drifted backwards into the fuel support trailer and rolled over onto its left side.

The helicopter was recovered to a secure location for further examination.

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A helicopter had a hard landing at North Las Vegas airport on Tuesday. The privately-owned Bell 47G-4A was under maintenance and was being tested when the hard landing occurred.  The helicopter was hovering at low altitude before it hit the ground around 3 p.m. Two people were on the helicopter during the hard landing.  Christine Crews with the Clark County Department of Aviation says that no injuries were reported.  Fire crews responded to the scene because of a fuel leak, but no fire broke out because of the crash.  Operations at the airport have not been affected by the incident.
