RICE LAKE, Wis. (WEAU) -- No one is hurt after an aircraft caught fire at the Rice Lake Air Center on Sunday, June 24.

According to the Rice Lake Fire Department, around 2:30 p.m. officials were dispatched the Rice Lake Air Center – Regional Airport for an aircraft on fire.

When the department arrived on scene, a Cessna 310K was on fire on Runway 01-19.

Both occupants got out of the aircraft safely.

Rice Lake fire fighters controlled the fire with a foam solution.

The pilot, James Kleven, said that a smell of "something hot" was detected on take-off, and an emergency landing was made.

After getting out of the aircraft, Kleven saw flames on the aircraft firewall near his feet.

No damage estimate is available at this time.

The Rice Lake Fire Departments cleared the scene around 4 p.m.

  2. Wow from the looks of it you'd think they were carrying a load of lithium batteries in the nose that caught fire! No engines were harmed in the creation of this incident.
    Just sayin'...

  3. Can you say "maintenance issue"? Most of the maintenance was conducted with bailing wire and duct tape.
