A Shelby County Sheriff's Office helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened about 1:15 p.m. The helicopter was assisting in the ongoing search for a missing kayaker who disappeared nearly one week ago. During the course of aerial operations to search for any signs of the man, authorities said, the helicopter came in contact with Alabama Power lines.

They made the emergency landing in a field near the Logan Martin Dam. There were no injuries report.

Sheriff's officials the Federal Aviation Administration and Alabama Power have been notified.

The search for 69-year-old James Lowery has been underway since Friday, March 9. The Georgia man was last seen before noon on March 9 at the Logan Martin Dam.
