BEAVER ISLAND — Authorities are reporting no one was injured in an incident during which a airplane landed on its belly on Beaver Island Sunday.

In a news release issued Monday, Charlevoix County Sheriff Chuck Vondra said the incident happened shortly after 1 p.m. at the Beaver Island Airport.

Vondra said pilot Scott Hoxie, 59, of Grand Rapids was attempting to land a Searey amphibious airplane at the airport with another aircraft behind him when he forgot to put the landing gear down and landed on the belly of the aircraft. 

Vondra said the incident has been turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration for further investigation.

The Charlevoix County Sheriff’s Office says a pilot is OK after crashing a plane while trying to land on Beaver Island.

Pilot Scott Hoxie, of Grand Rapids, was trying to land at the Beaver Island Airport around 1 p.m. Sunday.

The sheriff’s office says Hoxie forgot to put down the landing gear and ended up landing on the belly of the amphibious plane.

No one was hurt, and the crash has been turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration.
