The Australian Federal Police (AFP) has charged a 49-year-old United States woman for attempting to import approximately two kilograms of cocaine into Australia.

The woman arrived at Sydney International Airport on a flight from Los Angeles yesterday (Friday, 4 August 2017). She was selected for baggage examination by Australian Border Force (ABF) officers.

A deconstruction of the woman’s baggage by ABF officers identified a substance concealed within clothing, make-up products and other items in her suitcase.

Presumptive testing indicated the substance was cocaine. Further forensic testing will be conducted to determine the exact weight and purity of the cocaine.

AFP officers attended and subsequently charged the woman with importing a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug, namely cocaine, contrary to section 307.1 of the Criminal Code 1995 (Cth).

The woman is scheduled to appear in Parramatta Children’s Court today.
