Emergency crews responded to a single-engine plane that crashed on the runway at Stillwater Regional Airport on Friday morning. The pilot, reported to be an Oklahoma State flight student, was the lone occupant and not injured.

According to Lt. Doug Nichols of Stillwater Police Department, the cause of the crash will be under investigation to determine what happened, but could take longer than the minor damage sustained suggests.

"These things just take forever to work through everything," Nichols said. "Even though it's not bad at all - it's just a mound of paperwork ... it may be a couple days before we have much more."

SPD, Stillwater Fire Department, LifeNet ambulance services and Oklahoma Highway Patrol responded to the call after it was reported fuel was possibly leaking from the aircraft, a single-engine Cessna. SFD is equipped and capable to clean up hazardous material spills and at times will call in a regional response unit that specializes in cleaning up hazardous materials.
